Women’s Rabbinic Network

The Women’s Rabbinic Network is the national organization of Reform women rabbis, representing 840+ women and nonbinary individuals who have been ordained as rabbis. The WRN has been an integral and cherished part of Rabbi Segal’s rabbinate since her ordination. She currently serves as Co-President of the WRN and previously served as its Vice President of Social Action and Advocacy.

WRN Co-President

As the Co-President, Rabbi Segal supervises WRN’s Executive Director and is proud to have spearheaded the transition of this role from part-time to full-time with appropriate compensation and benefits as a model of how Jewish nonprofits must strive to engage in just employment practices. Additionally, she supervises the WRN’s national board of twelve women rabbis and several committees and working groups and co-creates leadership development programs and retreats for the national board.

One notable accomplishment during her co-presidency was co-creating a landmark Paid Family & Medical Leave Policy & Resource for the Reform movement, challenging all Jewish congregations and organizations in the Reform Movement and beyond to recognize family leave as a human right and to model their policies on best practices.

Rabbi Segal also led the establishment of WRN’s first-ever endowment, The Sally J. Priesand Fund for Equity in Jewish Life, to ensure the continuance of WRN’s work for generations to come. Rabbi Segal also created fundraising and endowment committees for the WRN that are creating a comprehensive fundraising strategy for the organization.

During her time as Co-President of WRN, the Reform Movement has also encountered a very trying period of time as broad allegations of misconduct and harassment have come to light, leading to independent investigations and ethics reviews in the three major Movement organizations (the CCAR, the URJ, and HUC) as well as several synagogues and other organizations. Rabbi Segal has played a key role in WRN’s work supporting survivors and witnesses, providing resources and perspective to the leaders of the Movement organizations in ongoing conversations, and educating regarding pathways to organizational healing & repair.

WRN Social Action & Advocacy Vice President

In her previous role as the Social Action & Advocacy Vice President, Rabbi Segal led national advocacy and organizing regarding reproductive justice, gender equity, #MeToo, and issues surrounding women and others marginalized due to gender in the workplace, often in partnership with the other national Reform Movement organizations and their leaders.

One particular accomplishment during the time Rabbi Segal held this role was her creation and leadership of the WRN Writers’ Circle, a group of women rabbis who write articles, responses, statements, and resolutions on important issues of the day within the Jewish world and beyond. The group not only enables WRN to have a proactive public and social media presence based in Jewish ethics, but it also elevates the voice and perspective of women rabbis in the public sphere.
